About JSLPS: Government of Jharkhand, through JSLPS (an autonomous Society created by Government of Jharkhand), has created an institutional architecture for fight against poverty, by enabling and empowering the poor to access better livelihoods and improve their standards of living. JSLPS aims to improve rural livelihood options and work towards social and economic empowerment of rural poor and women.At present, JSLPS is implementing various programmes in more than 125 blocks spread over 20 districts of Jharkhand. This year JSLPS will make entry in another 70 to 75 blocks with coverage of all 24 districts. JSLPS is the nodal implementing agency for national programmes - DAY-NRLM and DDU-GKY. It is also implementing MKSP and JICA funded micro drip irrigation project in Jharkhand. Apart from this, Social Audit Unit in Jharkhand is also housed in JSLPS. Working with these programmes and projects, JSLPS has established its credential as one of leading development agencies of the state Government with professional competency and well-designed institutional and HR systems.

JOHAR: Jharkhand Opportunities for Harnessing Rural Growth (JOHAR) is a new project under JSLPS. The Project would mainly focus on intensification and diversification of livelihoods in selectsectors in which the state has comparative advantage.JOHAR will build on the social and institutional platform of SHGs developed under DAY-NRLM and it will work with targeted households that are ready to move towards livelihood. The project will be implemented in 68 blocks spread across 17 district of Jharkhand. The total duration of the project is 6 years. The project is financially assisted and technically supported by the World Bank. The Project would mainlyfocuse on the following components:

  • Promotion of Producer Groups (PGs) and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) by mobilizing and aggregating rural producers including women and men from SC/ST community with focus on diversification and/or intensification of their current production system, and improving their participation higher up in the value chain;
  • Strengthening rural producers by transfer of climate resilient production techniques, capacity building, convergence and enhanced opportunities for value addition and effective market linkages;
  • Improving access to financing, including innovative financial products through the community institution platform and commercial banks; establishing partnerships with the private sector, including rural entrepreneurs, for effective forward and backward linkages with producers; and
  • Support skill development and financing modalities to facilitate jobs and entrepreneurship with a focus on the value chain and agribusiness.
